Focusing on Reduction of Readmissions Important for Hospitals

Of the many things the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has attempted, one major focus is on the reduction of readmissions for patients. The financial penalties levied at hospitals that see a high number of readmissions is meant to provide more focus, though unfortunately, there’s not always an easy way for the hospital to do so.

In this article, the author argues that in order to truly achieve lower readmissions, there must be an alliance formed with primary care physicians—with information shared easily, as the primary care physician may not know what happened while the patient was in the hospital.

Of course, the fines are meant to act as a motivator, but may only cause greater financial frustrations for hospitals that are already struggling. When revenue cycle management is so important, focusing on self-pay can make all the difference in the world. Contact HCM today to see how we can help close your revenue cycle.
